PP_13 That Rachel Norris (13) was the mother of John Edward Little (6)
My descent from my grandfather John Edward Little is confirmed by my and my brother's DNA matches with a half-2nd cousin, a granddaughter of his half-brother William J. Little b. 1918. DNA
John Edward Little was born in 1896, the son of another John Edward Little, a furniture remover, and Rachel Little formerly Norris. Birth
The elder John Edward Little, 21 (born c. 1874), a furniture packer, and Rachel Norris 21 (born c. 1874), married in Walton on the Hill in 1895. The bride's father is given as Richard Norris, deceased. Marriage
Rachel Norris was born in 1873, the daughter of Richard Norris and Isabella formerly Forrester. Birth
Isabella Norris was accidentally shot by her husband Richard Norris in 1876! Inquest
Richard and Isabella Norris and children Richard A. 4, Isabella 2 and Elizabeth 10 months are listed in the 1871 census in Liverpool. Census
Richard Norris and Isabella Forrester were married in Wakefield in 1866. Marriage
My descent from Susan Bevan is confirmed by at least 11 DNA matches averaging about 37cM with descendants of her siblings Richard Andrew, Elizabeth Ann, and Robert Joseph Norris, and at least 17 matches averaging about 35cm of all descendants of Susan with all descendants of those siblings. DNA
So the mother of John Edward Little (6),
Rachel Norris (13), born in 1873 in Liverpool,
married to John Edward Sampson Little (12) in 1895 in Walton, PP_12
died in 1908 in West Derby, was the daughter of
Richard Norris (26), and PP_26
Isabella Forrester (27). PP_27

PP_26 That Richard Norris (26) was the father of Rachel Norris (13)
Rachel Norris was born in 1873, the daughter of Richard Norris and Isabella formerly Forrester. PP_13
Richard Norris, aged 22 and the son of Richard Norris a schoolmaster, and Isabella Forrester were married in Wakefield in 1866. Marriage
The 1871 census gives the place of birth of Richard Norris as Liverpool. Census
Richard Norris was born in Liverpool in 1843, the son of Richard Norris, a teacher and Ann Norris formerly Walton. Birth
My descent from Richard Norris is confirmed by around 20 DNA matches averaging about 21cM with descendants of his siblings Ann, Rachel, and Joseph Hamblett Norris, and at least 39 matches averaging around 22cM of all descendants of Richard with all descendants of those siblings. DNA
So the father of Rachel Norris (13),
Richard Norris (26), born in 1843 in Liverpool,
married to Isabella Forrester (27) in 1866 in Wakefield, PP_27
died in 1891 in West Derby, was the son of
Richard Norris (52), and PP_52
Ann Walton (53). PP_53

PP_52 That Richard Norris (52) was the father of Richard Norris (26)
Richard Norris was born in Liverpool in 1843, the son of Richard Norris, a teacher and Ann Norris formerly Walton. PP_26
Richard Norris, a teacher, and Ann Walton were married in Liverpool in 1837. Marriage
The 1861 census gives the place of birth of Richard Norris as Woolston, Lancashire and his age as 48 (born c. 1813). Census
Richard Norris was baptized in Woolston, Lancashire in 1813, the son of Hamlet Norris, and his wife Mary. Birth
In 1810 Hamlet Norris acknowledged being the father of Ann a natural child of Mary Harrison baptized on September 16. Birth
Two months later in 1810 Hamlet Norris married Mary Harrison (though her name was recorded as Ann…) in Warrington. Marriage
In November 1815 Hamlet Joseph Norris the son of Hamlet and Mary Norris was baptized in Woolston.. Birth
But 4 months earlier in July 1815 the father Hamlet Norris aged 36 was buried (born c. 1779). Death
In fact, Hamlet Norris was beptized as Hamlet Joseph Norris, the son of William and Rachel Norris on 4 October 1778 in Woolston, Lancashire. Birth
My descent from Richard Norris is confirmed by around 3 DNA matches averaging about 21cM with descendants of his sibling Ann Norris, and at least 7 matches averaging around 21cM of all descendants of Richard with all descendants of Ann. DNA
So the father of Richard Norris (26),
Richard Norris (52), born in 1813 in Woolston,
married to Ann Walton (53) in 1837 in Liverpool, PP_53
died in 1880 in West Derby, was the son of
Hamlet Joseph Norris (104), and PP_104
Mary Harrison (105). PP_105

PP_104 That Hamlet Joseph Norris (104) was the father of Richard Norris (52)
Richard Norris was baptized in Woolston, Lancashire in 1813, the son of Hamlet (Joseph) Norris, and his wife Mary Harrison. PP_52
In November 1810 Hamlet Norris married Mary Harrison (though her name was recorded as Ann…) in Warrington. Marriage
Hamlet Norris was beptized as Hamlet Joseph Norris, the son of William and Rachel Norris on 4 October 1778 in Woolston, Lancashire. Birth

William Norris and Rachel Kemp married in Warrington in April 1771. Marriage
So the father of Richard Norris (52),
Hamlet Joseph Norris (104), born in 1778 in Woolston,
married to Mary Harrison (105) in 1810 in Warrington, PP_105
died in 1815 in Warrington, was the son of

1642 History of Warrington (Lancashire OnLine Parish Clerk Project, www.lan-oc.org.uk,) William (208)
Some stirring times commenced with the Civil War and many a stern fight took place in and about the town. In September 1642 the Earl of Derby took an army of 4000 men through Warrington for his unsuccessful attack on Manchester and in the following November he garrisoned the town in order to secure the passage of the Mersey. Mud walls and outworks were thrown up and against this stronghold Sir William Brereton’s forces and a large detachment from Manchester laid siege at the beginning of April 1643. After three days fighting the Earl began to set the middle of the town on fire and threatened to burn the whole place down rather than it should be taken. To prevent this the Parliamentary forces withdrew. Rachel (209)
Colonel Edward Norris, the Governor of Warrington, was left in command of the Royalists who numbered about 1600 and Sir William returned to the attack on May 22nd. The Royalists immediately fled to the Parish Church and steeple and boldly and resolutely defended themselves. The Manchesters, however, obliged the defenders to surrender after a siege of six days. On May 28th Sir George Booth, a Parliamentary Commander and Lord of the Manor, entered the town and was received by the people with great joy, the victors treating the inhabitants with great leniency.  Rachel (209)

I_1876 1876-05-30 Inquest in Liverpool in the County of Lancaster (Daily Courier) Isabella (27) 1876
Fatal Incautious Use of a Revolver Richard (26)
The adjourned inquest on the body of Isabella Norris, 32 years of age, wife of Richard Norris, a publican, of 2, Scotland-road, was resumed yesterday before the borough coroner. Mr, Bremner was present to watch the proceedings on behalf of the deceased’s husband. It appeared that Joseph Norris, brother-in-law of the deceased, had been using a revolver on the 4th ult. He was in the same room as his brother and his brother’s wife (the deceased) who had a child upon each knee. He handed the revolver to his brother, four of the chambers being at the time loaded, but he did not tell his brother the weapon was loaded. He told his brother that the quickest way of firing the cartridges successively was to pull the trigger back with the thumb instead of using the trigger. Richard Norris pulled the hammer back with his thumb, but the hammer slipped from his hold and exploded the cartridge. The ball grazed the deceased’s nose and passed through the orbit of her right eye into the brain at the back of the head. She lived to the 18th inst., and spoke rationally of the affair till within a short time of her death. The accident was not, however, mentioned to her, for fear of its exciting her. Once before her death, in speaking of the affair to her mother, she said that the revolver went off by accident. After a long investigation the jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death”, and were of opinion that Joseph Norris was deserving of censure, as he had been careless in using the weapon and not warning his brother that the revolver was loaded.
