PP_65 That Betsey Rescorla (65), was the mother of Thomas Hawkins (32) PP_32
Thomas Hawkins the son of Edward Hawkins, a carpenter, and Betsey Rescorla was baptised on the 11th of November 1792 in Stoke Damerel. PP_64
Thomas Hawkins had 8 siblings - at least 5 died very young, Thomas b. 1790, Thomas 1791, Betsey 1793, James 1797 abd Betsey 1798 - two others are untraced, Ann Rescarl b. 1795 and William 1802, leaving just one, Mary Hawkins baptised in 1805 who lived to marry and have children. Trees
There are at least 8 DNA matches between descendants of Thomas Hawkins b. 1792 and Mary Hawkins b. 1805 averaging about 16cM - proving our descents from Thomas and Mary.
Edward Hawkins and Betsey Rescorla were married on the 11th of September 1789 in Stoke Damerel, a part of Plymouth, Devon. Marriage
There is no obvious baptism of a Betsey Rescorla of a reasonable age - the only Betsey Rescorlas coming close are baptised in 1775 and 1777.
On the other hand, there are numerous DNA matches with a particular branch of a Rescorla family in Cornwall and Devon - at least 37 matches averaging 15cM between descendants of our Betsey Rescorla and descendants of a certain - DNA
Lewis Rescorla b. 1801 in St. Colomb, Cornwall. Lewis
But I have been unable to find any plausible documented connection to explain how this Lewis Rescorla and our Betsey Rescorla both inherited DNA from some recent (for them) common ancestor, except the following:
This Lewis Rescorla was the son of Thomas Rescorla and Ann Stephens married in 1793 in Liskeard. Thomas + Ann
And this Thomas Rescorla was baptised in 1771 in Liskeard, the son of Thomas Rescorla and Ann. Thomas
There were 2 couples of 'Thomas Rescorla and Ann' in England in the time frame 1740 to 1780 -
Thomas Rescorla and Ann Julyon m. 1763 in Bodmin and - Th. + A. Julyon
Thomas Rescorla and Ann Harris m. 1766 in Stoke Damerel. Th. + A. Harris
The former couple had 6 children in Bodmin and Lostwithiel between 1763 and 1784, the latter couple 1 child in Stoke Damerel in 1768 and 6 more in Liskeard between 1769 and 1777.
The latter couple is of interest for us due to the Stoke Damerel connection, and that their first child was a daughter, Mary Ann, born in Stoke Damerel in 1768 (where Betsey Rescorla married in 1789). Mary Ann
If this Mary Ann Rescorla was actually our Betsey Rescorla, the DNA matches would be explained, and she would have been 21 on her marriage.
Could the parish priest have objected to 'Betsey' as it wasn't a proper name (there were only 2 girls baptised 'Betsy' in Stoke Damerel within 5 years of 1768) - so they used Mary Ann for the baptism? Was there a clerical error similar to Thomas Hawkins being recorded as Edward Mardon Hawkins in 1814? Could she or they have just decided to use Betsey instead of Mary Ann, for whatever reason?
At any rate, no other explanation for the DNA matches seems plausible without some untraceable 'natural' event having taken place.
A possible confirmation for Betsey Rescorla's parents having been a 'Thomas and Ann': 2 of her children were given Rescorla as a middle name - Thomas Rescorla Hawkins in 1791 and Ann Rescorla Hawkins in 1795… Trees
So the mother of Thomas Hawkins (32),
Betsey Rescorla (65), born probably in 1768 in Stoke Damerel,
married to Edward Hawkins (64) in 1789 in Stoke Damerel, PP_64
died in ? in ?, was the daughter of
Thomas Rescorla (130), and PP_130
Ann Harris (131).

PP_130 That Thomas Rescorla (130), was the father of Betsey Rescorla (65) PP_65
DNA matches and parish records have led us to the idea that Betsey Rescorla was baptised under the name Mary Ann on the 25th of March 1768 in Stoke Damerel (see above). PP_65
Her parents were Thomas Rescorla, a ropemaker, and Ann Harris married on the 7th of May 1766 in Stoke Damerel.
Thomas Rescorla and Ann had 6 other children, all born in Liskeard, Cornwall - Ann in 1769, Thomas 1771, Nicholas 1773, Rebecca 1775, Christiana 1777 and Mary 1772.
That they name 2 children with the rather unusual names Nicholas and Christiana suggests that Thomas is the son of Nicholas Rescorla and Christiana Gumma baptised in 1739 in Bodmin.
Nicholas Rescorla and Christianne Gumma married on the 26th of December 1731 in Lanivet near Bodmin. Marriage
Thomas and Ann Rescorla were living with their son Lewis' family in 1841, Census 1841
and Ann alone in 1851. Census 1851
Thomas Rescorla died in 1850 in St. Colomb Major, Cornwall. Death
So the father of Betsey Rescorla (65),
Thomas Rescorla (130), born in 1740 in Bodmin,
married to Ann Harris (131) in 1766 in Stoke Damerel,
died in 1850 in St. Colomb Major, was the son of
Nicholas Rescorla (260) and
Christianna Gumma (261).
