Tracing Tracing the Conyerss
I have found no plausible birth for the Charity Conyer(s), who married Peter Mayhew in 1700. M_1700
There was a birth of a Charity Conyers, daughter of Walter, in Tynemouth in 1674 which would fit (she would have been 26 in 1700), B_1674
but that Charity Conyers, daughter of Mr. (sign of a gentleman!) Walter Conyers, died aged 2. D_1676
It is quite possible that the same parents had another daughter called Charity, but such a record has not come to light.
There was another Charity Conyers (perhaps the mother), wife of Walter Conyer a mariner, in Stepney in 1667. B_1667
As this Walter Conyer was a mariner, he might have been involved in the coal trade between Tynemouth (Newcastle) and London - and could have been in Plymouth as well a year earlier to marry a certain Charity Bartlett. M_1666
This Walter Conyers is probably the mariner of Deptford who married a Mary Tyler in 1663 in London, M_1663
by marriage licence rather than banns, something only the fairly wealthy (see Mr., above) would normally do. M_1663L
This Mary Tyler, wife of Walter Conyers of Wapping, mariner, was buried in Stepney in 1665. D_1665
This scenario is by no means proven, but seems to be a plausible possibility.
Further, the Nicholas born in 1667 may the same who married Susanna Michell in Bermondsey in 1690. M_1690
The baptisms of children in 1693 in Bermondsey, 1699 and 1702 in Bishopswearmouth (near Tynemouth) may be theirs, as could the burial of Nicholas in 1725 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and of Susanna Conyer, widow, back in Deptford in 1733. D_1733
This whole slightly complicated scenario may be partially confirmed by the births in 1701 and 1702 of the first two daughters of Charity Conyer and Peter Mayhew, both of whom (the first died an infant) were baptized Susanna, perhaps after Charity's sister-in-law. B_1701
