Introduction Introduction
The Overview to the right shows a summary of my autosomal DNA results. Overview
Note that only the initials of matches (on various DNA sites) are shown, so a third party would have no idea of that person's identity, except possibly a close relative.
Confirmed ancestors are marked with solid red dots.
 - this means that (for Susan Bevan for instance to the bottom right) there are 70 matches in total confirming that she is my ancestor based on my and others' family trees - 7 matches to a descendant of a sibling of hers (we share descent from her parents), 25 matches to a descendant of a sibling of her father John Bevan, 35 matches to a descendant of a presumed sibling of her mother Louisa Jones, etc.
Where an ancestor is only confirmed by matches to descendants of one of their ancestors, this is indicated with an arrow mark.
Where an ancestor has no siblings who left descendants, this is indicated with an empty dot.
Note that ancestors who are confirmed by DNA are marked with a '✓' sign in the 'Proofs' column on the Main page.

Results My father is confirmed by 102 matches (all those on the left half of the diagram), and my mother by 103 (all those on the right half of the diagram).
My grandparents are confirmed by 68, 34, 19 and 84 matches respectively.
My great-grandparents are confirmed by 29, 35, 9, 20, 6, 13, 12 and 70 matches respectively.
So far, so good - but my supposed great-great-grandfather James Pell Yallop 1824-1896, and his ancestors the Yallops, Packers, Pells and Norris seem to have left no trace, whereas his wife Jemina Caroline Hudson is confirmed by 29 matches.
Of my other great-great-grandparents, all are confirmed by at least a couple of matches except Helen Cooke (none of her siblings left descendants), Mary Ann Atkinson (see the Atkinsons - they have proved impossible to trace so far), and Isabella Forrester whose descendants are also proving to be elusive.
Some fairly distant ancestors are confirmed by DNA:
George Hudson 1764-1816 by at least 20 matches to descendants of both of his wives, confirming him, as the common denominator.
Richard Otter 1722-1785 by several matches between descendants of his and (I'm quite sure) descendants of his brother Francis Otter (c1730-after 1792).
Possibly Alice Clipsham 1710-1780 by my match to one descendant of a half-sibling.
Probably John Hunsley 1732-1818 by my match to two descendants of his who are not from his wife.
Possibly Mary Bell 1758- by my match to 2 descendants of a sibling.
Mary Ramsey 1769- by my match to 3 descendants, of a sibling and two cousins.
Mary Lovering 1744-c1807 by my match to 2 descendants of her siblings.
